Secondary complications are also a problem for many patients with spinal cord injuries. These complications can arise suddenly and may not be predictable.<\/p>\n<p>It is important that any <a href=\"\/\">patient with a spinal cord injury<\/a> receives care immediately following the initial injury, as well as in the future, depending on the potential for secondary conditions to develop.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What are some secondary complications that patients could face?<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Depending on mobility and the location of the injury, some possible complications include:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Pressure sores<\/li>\n<li>Urological complications<\/li>\n<li>Deep vein thrombosis<\/li>\n<li>Gastrointestinal complications<\/li>\n<li>Respiratory diseases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>These are just a few possible complications; there are also others to watch out for.<\/p>\n<p>Patients who have the potential for developing <a href=\"https:\/\/www.shepherd.org\/patient-programs\/secondary-complications\" target=\"_blank\">complications following an injury<\/a> will need ongoing care and help managing their conditions in the future.
